The trip

Tallahassee to Montana.

We flew out for Madison and Brady, then took the rental car down the back roads before the wedding.

Our trip to Montana.

Madison & Brady Brantley — St. Regis

hen Madison and Brady asked if we wanted to come to Montana, the answer was hell yes. We flew out, got to the Airbnb, dropped our bags and started getting the gear ready. Then we went for a drive. The first thing we noticed was how wild everything felt, and how absolutely stunning it was. We ended up spending the entire rest of the day in the car, with no maps and no service, just pointing it down another road to see where we ended up.

One back road took us into the middle of a canyon.

One back road took us into the middle of a canyon. There was wildlife everywhere, and some of the most beautiful views any of us had ever seen in our lives. It turned a drive with no real plan into an amazing first day in Montana. On the way back we stopped for dinner at a local place and tried huckleberry for the first time. The huckleberry was amazing.

The next morning we went to the bison range. Matt almost touched a bison, which had the rest of us terrified that it was going to destroy the rental car. We were having an amazing time, but that was a little closer to the wildlife than we had planned. We still had the rehearsal dinner and the wedding ahead of us, and getting those first days to explore was already turning this into a trip we would remember.

The milkshakes in St. Regis.

Every billboard on the way to St. Regis promised the best milkshake, and Matt and I were not going to pass that up. We pulled into a place that was a gas station, casino, bar, convenience store, gift shop and trout aquarium, all at once. The milkshake actually lived up to the billboards. We both approved, and over the next few days we went back enough times to put away about six of them.

At rehearsal we got to meet Madison, Brady and their family, hang out and get acquainted with the property. They were amazing to spend time with. That night we stayed out super late looking at the stars because you could literally see everything.

ROLL · FRAME 01

The next morning we went trout fishing with the groomsmen and caught some trout before the wedding. Getting that time with everyone was a lot of fun, and we got some good footage before the day had even really started.

Matt and I were sitting on the porch watching an eagle and an osprey when the eagle went down for a trout. Matt grabbed the RED and took off down the hill toward the creek to film it. What he had forgotten was that the camera was off, and it took long enough to start that he only caught the very end. I had my iPhone out and got the whole thing, including Matt making the run.

One of my favorite parts was getting to know the family. The wedding was at Brady's grandfather's house, on property they had owned for years and years. Brady's family runs a company taking people trout fishing and hunting, and it was fun getting to experience some of that while we were there. His grandparents were amazing, and Madison and Brady were so easy to spend time with. It was a small family wedding in a place that already had a lot of history for them.

Scene 18 · Staying after the wedding.

Behind the scenes

“We did not head straight home after the wedding. We went to Glacier and stayed another day or two at their hunting lodge, hanging out with Madison, Brady and their family. I loved having that extra time with everyone after the wedding was over. Between the back roads, the fishing, the milkshakes and getting to know the whole family, this ended up being one of the most fun weddings we have ever done.”
