The first look and the promises.
Caleb’s letter says he knew from the beginning that Madalyn would be his wife. Before the ceremony, there’s a much less serious question to settle at the first look: can she twirl in that dress? She gives it a try, and the conversation turns from admiring the dress to how excited they are. Their ceremony brings the focus back to the promises, sharing each other’s joys and carrying the hard parts together.

Finding our film style.
It was just me and Smith filming Madalyn and Caleb, with two cameras and a lot we were still trying out. This was one of our early weddings with the drone, and we were still figuring out what a Midsummer film should look like. I remember it as a simple, easy wedding to work on, which gave us room to explore that movie-style approach. It helped us recognize a direction we wanted to keep developing.
